AMBIENCE
The walls of the Cësa Paula are built by stones of the close mountain rocks, inside you will find a mix of wood paneling and masonry. The are between S.Cristina and Selva allows you to be immediatly on slopes and on hiking trails.
HISTORY
When the "Cësa Paula" was built mainly by manual work in the 1950s, Val Gardena was best known for its woodcut art. Because of the alpine climate and the steep, impassable terrain, agriculture has always been poor. Thus, a unique wood carving art developed in the ladin mountain valley, for decades it was the most important economic branch. Toys and sacred art from Val Gardena were exportet throughout Europe at the end of the 18th century and even oversea. Tourism experienced a first upswing around 1900 and found an abrupt end in the turmoil of the wars. Meanwhile tourism has become an important economic pillar. Also in Cësa Paula the accommodation of guests from all over the world is managed as a sideline already in third generation. Theo's father carves all sorts of beautiful or practical things in old wood in his small workshop with great passion. In the newly renovated apartment you will also find a lot of homemade items from his workshop.
